When to visit

Prague is enchanting all year round and each season offers something special. Before settling here, I visited at Christmas, during January, and also the spring and autumn.

Autumn has to be my personal favourite.  Late September and October are just perfect.  The last of the summer sun with gorgeous autumn colours everywhere and the summer crowds thinning out.

Spring is just lovely here, pleasant weather and lot’s of bloosoms.  It is howover, the start of the season which means the city can get crowded and if you suffer from hay fever or pollen associated allergies, you may want to visit later on in the year.

It’s amazing the amount of visitors who don’t realise how hot Prague can get in the summer, temperatures can hit 30C and more, which you should take into account. Most Czechs, if they can, abandon the city for their cottages in the country during the summer.

Winters can be extremely harsh here with temperatures dropping to -5C or more at times.  November and December are normally ok weather wise, obviously still cold but very Christmassy and a lovely time of year to visit if wrapped up. January, February and the beginning of March can be really, really cold and a wee bit bleak. The upside is of course is the city is less crowded, hotels are cheaper and there’s nothing like a hot wine sitting in a café watching the world go by, expect snow in January and February.
